The Parable Of The Fig Tree & Its Profound Message

The Parabale Of The Fig Tree

" 'A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit
on it but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard,
'For three years now I've been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and
haven't found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?
'Sir, the man replied, 'leave it alone for one more year, and I'll dig around it
and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year, fine if not, then cut it down.' "
  (Luke 13:6-8)

(Note: This is not a Fig Tree)

This parable, though brief, is packed with a profound message!
God the Father is the OWNER of the vineyard  and the Lord Jesus Christ is the GARDENER.

The Father says, "Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?
He has grown weary of this fruitless tree that is just taking up ground.
But Jesus intervenes and pleads with the Father to give him more time.

'Sir, the man replied, 'leave it alone for one more year, and I'll dig around it
and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year, fine if not, then cut it down.' "

God uses the parable of the fig tree to show us how unrepentant people are just like
fig trees that bears no fruit. What other uses are there for fig trees if they bear no fruit?

God stresses the importance of repentance in our life.
"Produce fruit in keeping with repentance". (Mat 3:8)

The fig tree that produces fruit represents those people who have truly repented,
and are seeking to live a God honoring life.

God is watching to see if the fig tree will produce fruit.
'For three years now I've been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven't
found any.'  (v.7)

Just as the gardener will go through great lengths to care for this tree, so it is with God.
HE IS MERCIFUL.
He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.(2Pet.3:9)

But the decision is for you to make. God provided for us a way to salvation through His Son
Jesus Christ.  (John 14:6,15:1) (Rom.3:25)

"I AM THE WAY AND THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE. NO ONE COMES TO THE
 FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME."

God, the Father has granted His Son Jesus Christ authority:  (Mat.28:18,11:27)
...Authority to forgive sins. (Mat.9:6-8, Mrk.2:10, Luk.5:24)
...Authority to give them life.  (John 5:21,26)
...Authority to Judge (John 5:27)

God has made everything ready and pronounced His judgment on days to come.
(Mathew 3:10)
The axe is already at the root at the trees, and every tree that does not produce good
fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. (Mat.3:10,12)
His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor,
gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire."
You do not want to be the chaff and to be burn up but the WHEAT that is kept
and restored.

Just remember God is watching to see if any of the fig trees will produce fruit!
Are you one of them?.....

If you have not received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior...now is the time to ask
Him.
"Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on Him while He is near." (Isa.55:6)

Jesus said, "There is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner
who repents."  (Luke 15:10,7)

And the Father's reaction to those who come back and repent, as described in
Luke 15:22:
"Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger
and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate."
